Trip to the Tip 2021 - Townsville to Archer River Roadhouse.

This year with all the restrictions happening around Australia we decided we were going to take adventures in our own backyard. It was around October 2020 when we decided with our friends Go with the Flow that we were going to head to the Tip of Australia.

With planning well underway January 2021 rolled around and we decided that we wanted to upgrade our camper trailer to a Jayco Outback Expanda. We were extremely lucky for it to arrive in time with our maiden voyage being Cape York.

Day 1 - Townsville to Atherton

We left Townsville and headed for Atherton Tablelands. We stayed at the Big 4. The park was very clean and the kids absolutely loved the pool and the playground. Check our their website for availability. https://www.big4.com.au/caravan-parks/qld/tropical-north/atherton-tablelands-holiday-park

On the way we stopped in at Cardwell for some lunch and a photo with the crab.

Day 2 - Atherton to Musgrave

We left Atherton around 8am and headed North for Musgrave. On the way we stopped in at Lakeland for lunch at the road house and a photo and kept heading North up the PDR. Not knowing anything about the road conditions we thought that we would hit red dirt as soon as we hit the PDR. Weren't we surprised when most of the way to Musgrave was Bitumen.

You don't need to book a site at Musgrave just pull up and see the nice ladies inside and they will send you in the right direction for a place to set up.

Day 3 - Musgrave to Archer River Roadhouse

So we headed off from Musgrave hoping to get to Bramwell. Approx. 20Km up the road our friends had some car troubles so we headed back to Musgrave to get some advise from RACQ. With no phone service and only a payphone we decided to keep going. We got to Coen for lunch and made a few phone calls and decided to keep heading north to Archer River Roadhouse.

Wow wasn't Archer River a nice little surprise. The campground was so nice and open. We were able to pick a nice grassy site and set up a fire and head down to the river for a nice swim/ shower after a massive, emotional day.
